There's only one life... You can stay out of mine...

If ever there was a song that embodied the sensation of taking a step forward on a path less travelled by, of heading towards a distant destination far on the horizon beneath the sweeping open skies, it can be embodied in the song, 'Storms of September'.

Truly this is the spotlight under which Peter Lennox stands and shows what he is capable of as a musician in his most primal and liberated form.

It is a refreshing change of pace and a testament to the partnership of Lennox and Dan Avidan where the man who does not express himself through vocals gets the chance to shine through the mastering of his instrument.

The production on this track is a testament to what Skyhill is capable of as a band, and it is proof that one does not need a large sum of money or a lavish setup in order to create something quite special that still sparks the imagination of whoever may listen.

The build up is slow paced, with some quiet percussion accompanying a gentle ascent towards what can only be described as an electric maelstrom.

True to form, Dan rejoins the symphony in the final bars, the lyrics speaking of only being able to live once, the subtle energy building into a gentle climax, and the song concludes with a sweeping melodic line that is the closest to vocal perfection as one can find on the entire album, evoking once again the spirit of freedom, of travelling the open road on a far-flung adventure.

Beauty is fleeting. And we appreciate Peter's work all the more because there is so little of it. We likely may never experience another work similar to that surge of genius erupting from two young minds in NYC between '06 and '07, but to me that makes it all the more valuable.
