The blue and red collide... I am red, you are blue

How many of us have imagined ourselves sharing the stage with one of their heroes, be it musical, theatre, comedic or any other performance medium? How many of us would want nothing more than to attend a masterclass taught by someone who has honed their craft, who has realised their dream and who brings inspiration to so many?
While many may be lucky to meet their hero in person for the briefest of moments, to be able to perform with them could be the ultimate wish for those who want to follow in their idol's footsteps.
Yet I often find myself wondering: what it would be like to sing with Dan Avidan, either as part of NSP, to witness Ninja Brian's lightning fast keyboard solos as well as to be able to experience the groove crusaders, Tupperware Remix Party, or on stage in New York with Peter Lennox backing us up on an acoustic guitar, re-imagining any of Skyhill's songs.
The prospect is almost as far flung as the stars that I know won't shine as bright... (I have taken to quoting Skyhill lyrics in writings, it often gives me a sense of enlightenment.)
So instead, the wish fulfilment may often be found in another female artist, someone who has much more talent and likelihood of ending up in a studio with Dan Avidan than I ever could.

Not only would it be a wonderful collaboration, but it would be a refreshing change of pace to hear Dan harmonising with another artist, similar to the popular Starbomb song 'Luigi's Ballad' where the actress Rachel Bloom took on the role of the famous Princess Peach to duet with Dan's Luigi character, and the melding of their voices was simply amazing.
So after experiencing such a powerful comedic duet, it got me to thinking about who could potentially be a singing partner to complement Dan's own fantastic voice, as well as carry a wonderfully produced sound found in the discography of Skyhill.
One such artist that came to my mind first was Fiona Apple, whose sultry vocals on 'Criminal' would be a great match to Dan's own voice, and what with the previous work on Skyhill and the alt-indie scene, her own unique style would certainly make magic happen.
Perhaps a reworking of the song 'Shadowboxer' as a duet?

One artist who is also on YouTube is Karliene Reynolds, whose Celtic inspired style is infused with her talent for writing music about famous historical figures, such as the story of Anne Boleyn, as well as releasing many songs inspired by and featured in Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, and Labyrinth.

With Karliene's talent, it would be the golden thread of magic, adventure and far-reaching possibility that Skyhill's main themes are often sung about, as well as that element of storytelling imagination that is so omnipresent in 'Run with the Hunted'.
Karliene also paid tribute to the late David Bowie with a tearful rendition of 'Heroes' which proves that she can carry emotional weight with her voice, as well as capturing the grief and horror of the infamous Red Wedding in Game of Thrones with a song titled 'Let It End'.
Karliene also refers to her fans and followers as her 'wolfpack', which fits in quite nicely with Skyhill's lone wolf logo.
The third female artist who I could imagine fitting in nicely with Dan and Peter's soundscape is an Irish artist named Lisa Hannigan (who am I am also including for sentimental reasons to represent my own home country), but whose ethereal vocals on the classic '9 Crimes' where she duets with fellow singer-songwriter Damien Rice, never fails to tug the heartstrings.

Yet Lisa possesses a quiet power to her expression of music, that can often be devastating emotionally, and Dan himself can also bring a softer, more vulnerable quality to music such as in the reprise of 'Black and White' that is almost a whisper.
Even if another duet does not materialise in the near future, it is always enjoyable to imagine.
In the meantime, perhaps I will sing one of Skyhill's songs in an audition should I ever have enough courage to do so, or simply to myself on a quiet night, imagining being onstage with the band themselves.
A girl can dream, after all.

I can't believe I never came across this sooner, I'm always looking for more opportunities to gush about Dan and this band. I might be close to a decade late but be assured that this project and your writing won't be forgotten! Plus, some new recs are always appreciated :)
